Goodspeed’s hat trick leads Timon sweep of Frontier

When Timon and Frontier faced off on Sunday night at HarborCenter, the game featured 18 total penalties and a 3-2 Timon win. If either team finished Sunday’s game feeling like it had unfinished business, it didn’t have to wait long for a rematch.

On Monday afternoon, Frontier hosted Timon at the Hamburg Nike Air Base Arena, and just a little bit of Sunday’s chippiness carried over.

“[We expected] high hitting intensity,” Timon’s Tom Radwan said. “It was gonna be a good game — close game. Couple penalties. Chippy and stuff like that.”

“Just a little chippiness,” Sean Goodspeed added. “Thought it was gonna be a good game.”

Monday’s game featured less penalties — just eight combined — and another Timon win. This time, Timon scored two power play goals to sweep the two-game series with a 5-3 win.

Flannan Gould scored the first Timon goal halfway through the first period, assisted by Jack Robinson and Goodspeed, but Frontier’s Logan Warner tied it up just 19 seconds later. The Falcons took the lead 5:26 into the second period on a Jake Watkins goal.

Sean Goodspeed scored with less than three minutes remaining in the second, assisted by Jake Giacobello and Gould, and the period ended with Timon and Frontier tied at two.

But Goodspeed wasn’t done. He scored again 3:11 into the third, assisted by Robinson, and Timon finally had the lead back — temporarily. Just a minute and a half later, Mike Jankowski scored for Frontier to tie the game once more.

But with less than five minutes remaining in the third, Radwan scored unassisted to put Timon on top for good.

“I just kinda shot it in,” Radwan said. “I saw the opening, shot it in.”

And Goodspeed completed his hat trick with 26 seconds left to play to really put the game away. Giacobello and Robinson had the assists.

“It was a good feeling, and it was a good game,” Goodspeed said. “Happy that we got the win.”

“When it got to the last minute, I knew we were gonna win, as soon as Goodspeed got the goal,” Radwan said.

The win not only gave Timon two points against a division foe, but it put the Tigers in first place alone with a point more than Kenmore East. Radwan and Goodspeed were excited about both.

“Really big,” Radwan said of getting the win. “We got two points last night and two points this game, and they’re in our division, so it’s a real big push to first place.”

“We had our chances, they had their chances, and we capitalized in the end,” Goodspeed said. “Back in first place, so should be good for us.”
