After spending a couple of years covering high school sports for a local newspaper and professional hockey for a couple websites, it was high school hockey that captured my heart. The beauty of the sport, along with the appreciation of high school athletes and their families and the fun atmosphere of high school sports, was inspiring to me. It wasn’t long before I began to prefer covering a high school game over a professional game, and so Icing The Fed was born. I hoped for something original and catchy, and I came up with the name during a late night brainstorming session with another great hockey mind. It didn’t take long for the name to catch on, and it’s always fun hearing, “Look, it’s Icing The Fed!” when I’m at a rink.
