I love hockey. When I first had the chance to cover high school hockey in 2014, I was excited that I’d finally have the chance to write about something I loved.
I couldn’t have predicted the appreciation of the players and coaches, the excitement of being so close to the game and writing recaps for everyone to read, or the intensity and emotion of traveling to Utica with a team for the state championship.
This year, I wanted to do something more. And so Icing the Fed was born. I’m excited to spend my evenings and weekends at the rink. I’m excited to talk to more high school athletes, who have become my favorite group to write about due to the fact that so many of them are just happy someone thought to mention them on twitter or in an article.
In the coming weeks, I’ll be reaching out to coaches and players to get season previews started of each WNY Federation Hockey team.
I also have a few other ideas of things to add, and I’ll keep you updated as those things happen.
