Orchard Park had a close win at home Thursday night. The Quakers celebrated senior night with a 65-63 win over WNY Maritime.

The Quakers came out smoking for senior night as they took off for a 9-0 lead to start the game. Maritime answered with a few big baskets, coming out of the first quarter only down two.

Maritime claimed a short lead in the second quarter as the teams went back and forth. The competition was on in Orchard Park as the teams were tied at halftime.

The third quarter was some more of what was happening in the first half as both teams went back and forth. The game remained close for about the rest of the game. With only a few minutes left in the game, Orchard Park gained a five-point lead. Maritime dropped the Quakers’ lead to only one. In the last few minutes, big three-pointers by Chase Kline closed the game for the Quakers. WNY Maritime had the opportunity to tie the game near the end, but their final possession ended in two missed three pointers. Tino Mancabelli had a standout performance for Orchard Park as he put up 22 points. Quakers came out victorious by a score of 65-63.

Senior Chase Kline was impressed with the Quakers’ win over Maritime.

“It was a very fun game to be playing in on senior night against a very tough Maritime team,” Kline said. “We wanted to play all the seniors and also get the win, which we did.”

Kline had a big senior night performance and was impressed with his play in the end of the game.

“We shared the ball well,” Kline said. “I hit two corner threes, and I knew after that second three it was going to be a good night. We went into halftime tied at 27 and came out and went on a little bit off a run. The game got very chippy towards the end. I hit three more threes in the second half to take the lead by six and then came back and they fouled me with about 20 seconds left and I knocked both of them down, which pretty much sealed the game.”

The Quakers travel to Jamestown Monday for a makeup game against the Red Raiders before finishing the regular season at home next Wednesday against Lancaster.
